Identity in Christ (Ephesians)

Participants will recognize that their identity originates in God’s initiative, not human merit. They will learn that the Mosaic Law - the Torah - illustrates that humans are not capable on their own of achieving the righteousness that God requires. They will trace how Paul’s opening blessing reveals the Father’s choosing, the Son’s redeeming, and the Spirit’s sealing work. They will respond with gratitude and confidence that their belonging in God’s family is secure in Christ.

Participants will learn to pray for spiritual wisdom and revelation - both for others and for themselves - understanding that true transformation flows from seeing who Christ is and what He has done. They will contrast living by grace with living by performance and identify ways to rest in Christ’s finished work rather than striving for approval.

Participants will grasp the mystery of the gospel: that in Christ, God has created one new humanity where all have equal access to Him. They will examine how reconciliation with God leads to reconciliation among people and how Jesus’ tearing down of dividing walls calls the church to resist rebuilding new ones of denomination, culture, or preference. They will recognize that the church extends far beyond their local gathering—it is the worldwide body of Christ called to live as one family.

Participants will understand that every believer is called and gifted for ministry within the body of Christ, which reaches beyond any single congregation or tradition. They will identify the purpose of the fivefold gifts and explore how unity and maturity grow when each part serves in love across the broader church. They will learn that while we each have specific gifts, those gifts do not limit our participation in the Spirit’s work—every believer is invited to reflect all aspects of Christ’s ministry as need and opportunity arise.

Participants will recognize the contrast between the old self and the new life empowered by the Spirit. They will understand that this new way of living is formed through shared life with other believers, not through private effort or occasional attendance. They will explore what it means to walk in love, purity, and wisdom within everyday relationships and church community, and they will commit to one tangible practice that reflects Christ’s light in those interactions.

Participants will understand that spiritual warfare is fought not by fear or aggression but by standing firm in Christ’s victory. They will examine how the armor of God equips believers for faithfulness in every sphere of life. They will identify specific ways to depend on the Spirit’s strength to persevere in love and truth. They will learn that spiritual warfare is communal and that we stand firm together as one body, not as isolated believers or competing churches.
