I AM: Encountering Jesus in His Own Words
The I AM Statements of Jesus is a seven-part Quick Study series on the seven great "I AM" sayings in the Gospel of John: Bread of Life, Light of the World, Door, Good Shepherd, Resurrection and Life, Way/Truth/Life, and True Vine. Each installment treats one statement with care for its setting, its Old Testament resonance, and its theological weight — keeping front and center that when Jesus says egō eimi, he is invoking the divine Name revealed to Moses at the burning bush. The series moves through a deliberate arc, from the most basic needs (sustenance, revelation) through being known and led (access, care), into the deepest mysteries (life beyond death, the path itself), and finally into the most intimate image of abiding in the vine. By the seventh installment, the reader has been given a complete portrait of who Christ is for them — gift and claim together, what he offers and what he demands. The voice is reverent, image-rich, and dense without being heavy — installments that lean toward compression rather than expansion, with sentences worth underlining and returning to. Each one places the statement in its setting, draws out the Old Testament echoes its first hearers would have felt, treats the divine claim with full seriousness, brings the saying directly into the reader's life, and closes with a short, concrete practice. The tone is worshipful and unhurried despite the brevity — a series of slow, deliberate gazes at the same face from seven different angles, leaving the reader knowing Christ more, not just knowing more about him.
