Gratitude: Living a Life of Grace and Thanksgiving
Gratitude is a ten-part Quick Study series forming the reader in the biblical practice of thanksgiving. Moving through the Psalms (Psalm 100, 103, 136), Jesus' encounter with the ten lepers, Paul's teaching on anxiety and contentment, the call to thanksgiving in every circumstance, gratitude as the atmosphere of community, gratitude as worship and as the root of generosity, and finally the eternal song of thanks in Revelation, the series builds a developed daily practice rather than offering a single trick. Each installment adds a dimension — memory, repetition, recognition of overlooked gifts, thanks within anxiety and difficulty, gratitude expressed to others, gratitude as worship, gratitude as generosity, gratitude as eternal posture — so that by installment ten the reader is not just learning about gratitude but actually living more gratefully. Biblical gratitude is recovered as response: God acts; his people give thanks. The proper posture of the creature before the Creator, the redeemed before the Redeemer. The voice is pastoral, theologically grounded, and honest about the difficulty of gratitude in hard seasons. The series honors the overlap with what secular research has confirmed about thankfulness but grounds the practice theologically rather than therapeutically — it should feel less like a wellness program and more like a friend teaching the reader how to pray with thanks. Particular pastoral care is given to the call to give thanks "in everything," distinguishing thanksgiving *in* difficulty from thanksgiving *for* it: readers in grief, illness, or genuine suffering are not told to feel thankful for their pain, but are taught to find what can be thanked even when much cannot. The tone is warm, honest, and net-encouraging without being saccharine — the deep, sometimes hard-won thanks of people who know what they have been given.
